Chapter 64

Inside the restaurant, Lin Mo Chen and Mu Han Xia sit face to face.

When he looks up, he sees her distracted as she is getting food.

“What are you thinking?” He asks.

“Nothing much.”

Both people are silent for a moment. He reaches out his chopsticks, places some food in her plate and says, “This restaurant’s dishes, don’t you like them the most? Why aren’t you eating more?”

“Mhm.”

She slowly finishes the food that he got her, then opens her mouth to say, “I want to rest for a while, and not go to work.”

Ling Mo Chen stares at her and replies, “Okay.”

Unconsciously, Mu Han Xia lets out the breath she’d been holding. Then he says, “But, I also have a condition.”

Her eyes look up at him.

“Move back to the hotel,” he says, “I can’t keep letting you live in this convenient motel. Unless you want me to move over here.”

Mu Han Xia is silent for a moment, then replies, “Okay.”

Lin Mo Chen smiles, his eyes calm and soft.

After finishing the meal, he accompanies her back to the room to pack up her luggage. Then, all the way back, one hand dragging the suitcase, the other holding hers the entire time, they walk down the stairs, across the road, hail a taxi… … Mu Han Xia lets him hold her hand, also not loosening her grip on his hand.

After returning to the original hotel, he opens up a suite for her. It’s much bigger than her old spacious room.

She asks, “Why are you giving me a suite to live in?”

Lin Mo Chen lightly smiles and replies, “Don’t you want to rest for a while? Then you should stay in a more comfortable place.”

Mu Han Xia doesn’t say anything further.

Lin Mo Chen reaches a hand around her waist and bows down to kiss her. Then he says, “I’ll come see you after work tonight.”

“Mhm.”

This is the second day for discussions about MK’s investment in Feng Chen. Jack has already flown back to America, and there’s now a designated worker responsible for the follow-up of their cooperation with Feng Chen. So this entire day, Lin Mo Chen is also extremely busy. It’s only that unlike in the past, he remembers Mu Han Xia from time to time.

Remembering last night’s obsession, he would laugh slightly.

But his intuition tells him that there is something wrong with Mu Han Xia. Even if she had promised to move back to his side today, it wasn’t the same as it had been before, when he’d had a feeling of certainty and confidence.

Lao Fang had already heard of MK’s investment with Feng Chen yesterday. He only smiled slightly and hadn’t asked further. The secretary replies, “You’ve likely heard of the Yong Zheng group from Jiang Cheng before. I heard that Yong Zheng’s daughter Cheng Wei Wei, who is also a graduate of Columbia University, ran to the entrepreneur coffee shop and found Mr. Bert’s investment.”

The secretary is a longtime confidant of Lao Fang, so he also knows about the close relationship between Lao Fang and Mu Han Xia, despite their differences in age. Lao Fang looks at him and his face suddenly changes color. “Where did Cheng Wei Wei come from? Bert was introduced to Xiao Mu from Feng Chen by me, what does it have to do with anyone else?”

The secretary softly asks, “Then do you need me to call Lin Mo Chen and ask him about it?”

Lao Fang thinks for a moment then says, “I’ll take care of it.”

In the afternoon, Lao Fang and Mu Han Xia arrange to meet at a teahouse.

Mu Han Xia smiles as usual and asks, “You suddenly summoned me, is there something up?”

Lao Fang stares at her briefly, then with gentle eyes asks, “Has anything happened recently? Otherwise, with your cleverness, it’s impossible for nothing to have happened.”

Mu Han Xia is stumped. These few days, she’s been almost completely immersed in Lin Mo Chen. Since Lao Fang’s brought it up now, she also vaguely feels that she’s ignored something important.

“Lao Fang, what are you hinting at?” She directly asks.

“After I suggested it, did you go to the entrepreneur coffee shop to look for Bert?”

“Looked, of course I looked,” she bitterly smiles and replies, “I even pestered him for several days. Afterwards, he seemed to have loosened up and arranged to meet with me in the coffee shop yesterday. But I waited an entire hour and he didn’t come. I think he might’ve changed his mind.”

Lao Fang quietly drinks a few sips of tea and asks, “That girl named Cheng Wei Wei, was she at the coffee shop yesterday too?”

Mu Han Xia is a bit surprised and answers, “Yes. She followed me there.”

The never-changing face of Lao Fang suddenly glares at her and said, “How can you be so silly? The MK which invested in Feng Chen is Bert’s company!”

Mu Han Xia is thoroughly shocked.

The two people have already finished slowly drinking the pot of tea, and the sun outside of the window is also increasingly quiet.

Mu Han Xia asks with concern, “How is Bert right now? Can… … can he still wake up?”

Lao Fang sighs and says, “His illness wasn’t optimistic to begin with, this might be the one unlucky time. But, this friend of ours, in the investment community, he has seen a lot already. How else would he have been able to come to China for a holiday. You don’t need to worry about him. If there’s any progress on his condition, I will let you know.”

Mu Han Xia: “Mhm. I didn’t think it was like this, he really did give the investment to Feng Chen. I’m extremely grateful to him.”

Lao Fang smiles, “He’s caused many people to lose their family fortunes throughout his life; just think of it as him doing a good deed. I think for him to have made this decision, his mood must’ve been very happy. You should still first worry about your own matters. Such a big contribution, you’re letting it go to a scoundrel who came from who knows where right in front of your boyfriend. Why don’t you go back and argue with him?”

Mu Han Xia is quiet for a long time. Lao Fang sees her fair, slender fingers, clench and let go of her cup, then clench again. He doesn’t ask further, just calmly drinks his tea.

“Lao Fang, can I ask you for something?” She says.

“What?”

“This matter, if Lin Mo Chen doesn’t ask about it, then don’t bring it up to him.”

Lao Fang is slightly startled. He puts down his tea cup and asks, “Why?”

Mu Han Xia lowers her head, looking at the slightly rippling surface of the water in the cup. There are many confusing ad vague things reflected in the surface. She says, “If he knows about this matter, he won’t let me go.”

Lao Fang is silent.

Mu Han Xia picks up her tea and drinks it all in one mouthful. She is finally a little bit unable to hide her emotions.

Lao Fang opens his mouth, “Have you decided to go study?”

“I don’t know… …” Her voice is a little bit hoarse and she says, “Lao Fang I really don’t know what direction I should go in at this point in my life. There are some people I thought would be easy to abandon. But when it comes down to it, he stabbed me with a knife, yet I still pity him… …”

Lao Fang softly sighs and pats her shoulder from across the table. “Child, don’t be like this, this isn’t like the you I know. Life, indeed, will have many difficult choices. Love, hatred, interests, future, compassion… … all of these will cloud our eyes. But why are there some people whose lives always seem to be moving forward, smoothly sailing, making others jealous? While there are others who always feel that life is fading away, yet continue to hesitate, never having their dreams come true?”

Mu Han Xia looks up at him.

He says, “Because the former is self-aware. He is able to put aside his accomplishments and emotions, pushing aside the cloud, and see the road to what he truly wants in the depths of his heart, furthermore, resolutely fight for it. In fact, in the road of life and life choices, what is right and wrong? There has never been any such thing. Mu Han Xia, calm down, look for that road inside your heart. It has already been there since long ago. Open the eyes to your heart and see it.”

This evening, in the dark of night, Mu Han Xia is leaning on the side of the bed in a daze when she suddenly hears the sound of the key card sliding into the door.

She raises her head and sees Lin Mo Chen walking inside with a suitcase.

Mu Han Xia: “What are you doing?”

He places the suitcase beside the bed and takes of fhis jacket, throwing it onto the couch. He enters the bathroom only wearing his button up and his dress pants while he says, “We don’t need to book two rooms. I already returned the other one.”

Mu Han Xia doesn’t have the time to say anything before the bathroom is already filled with the sound of him showering.

When Lin Mo Chen comes out, Mu Han Xia has already closed the lights, leaving only a small lamp, and she is lying with her back facing him. Lin Mo Chen also lies on the bed, hugging her closely from behind. Seeing that she doesn’t have any reaction, he lowers his head and starts laying kisses on her neck.

“Does it still hurt?” He softly asks.

Mu Han Xia doesn’t make a sound.

His hand begins traveling little by little down~ teasing. His movements are light and his fingertips soft and cold, like ants biting softly. Mu Han Xia curls her body slightly, but she cannot leave his control. Her breathing slowly becomes frantic along with his movements.

She suddenly opens her mouth and says, “Lin Mo Chen, can you promise me something?”

“Talk.” He lowers his head and bites her soft shoulder.

“For this life, don’t ever see Cheng Wei Wei again.”

He is silent for a moment, then slowly whispers in her ear, “Okay.” This kind of promise makes Mu Han Xia’s heart soften; some of her original worries have become smoothed out. He suddenly turns her over and says, “For collaborations in the future, I won’t go out anymore. I’ll let other people take care of it.”

“Mhm.”

He slowly smiles. Seeing that smile makes Mu Han Xia’s heart distressed.

“I’ve already agreed to your request, how do you plan to repay me?” He says.

“I… …”

Before she finishes speaking, Lin Mo Chen has already lowered his head to kiss her, hugging her body tightly and reaching out a hand to turn off the light.

In the night, the two bodies are once again entangled together.

Even though Lin Mo Chen doesn’t yet know that it was Mu Han Xia who pulled in the investment from Bert, I’m glad that at least Mu Han Xia knows. It would’ve been really disappointing for her to keep going, thinking that she couldn’t accomplish anything… I’m glad she knows at least (although I don’t really agree with her hiding it from Lin Mo Chen).
